The Awaken” Prayer Gathering provides a rich environment for God to speak to His people as they gather to seek Him for revival and spiritual awakening.

The “Awaken” Prayer Gathering includes seasons of worship, focused prayer, preaching of God’s Word and prayer testimonies. Participants will be challenged to return to their churches with a renewed passion to seek God for the next great revival and spiritual awakening in their community, North Carolina, America and beyond.

Don Wilton

Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Spartanburg, S.C.
Don Wilton is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, S.C.. He is the founder and president of “The Encouraging Word” broadcast ministry which reaches households in numerous countries through television, radio and the internet. Wilton was born and raised in South Africa, and after moving to the United States, he graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he later served as a professor. He has authored numerous books and is a highly sought-after Bible expositor who preaches around the world. Wilton and his wife, Karyn, have three children and eight grandchildren.

 

Willie McLaurin

Vice President for Great Commission Relations and Mobilization, SBC Executive Committee, Nashville, Tenn.
Willie McLaurin is the vice president for Great Commission Relations and Mobilization of the SBC Executive Committee. In this role, he leads the SBC in Cooperative Program and stewardship education and promotion, in cultivating relationships with multiple demographic groups, and in facilitating Great Commission partnerships with state conventions, associations, SBC entities and other ministry partners. Prior to joining the SBC Executive Committee, McLaurin served with the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board for almost 15 years. A native of North Carolina, he holds degrees from N.C. Central University, Duke School of Divinity and Saint Thomas Theological Seminary. McLaurin has served as senior pastor, executive pastor, youth pastor and interim pastor for churches in Tennessee, North Carolina and Arizona. He and his wife, Antonia, have two daughters.

J. Chris Schofield

J. Chris Schofield, serves on the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC) staff as director of the Office of Prayer for Evangelization and Spiritual Awakening. Before coming to the BSCNC, Chris served with the North American Mission Board as the manager of Prayer Evangelism from 1997-2004. He received his B.A. from Gardner-Webb College and his M.Div., Th.M. and Ph.D. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS). He has pastored two churches full-time and occasionally serves as an adjunct professor at SEBTS. Chris has a passion and burden to see God pour out His mercy upon the church in America and the nations through revival and a spiritual awakening.
