According to George Barna, 1 in 5 churches may consider closing within the next 18 months. As Mark Clifton says, “we are closing churches where we need to be planting churches.”
“Legacy Churches: Celebrating Adoption and Restart” is a one-day conference to assist associational mission strategists, pastors, church staff and laity in keeping existing church facilities in evangelical hands for kingdom purposes and gospel proclamation.
The conference will include plenary sessions and breakouts led by experienced practitioners who are associational mission strategists, pastors and planters, as well as state convention staff. Included will be interviews with effective church leaders with experience in adopting legacy churches.
There will be a conversation around the need for church restarts within existing church facilities. Since most school systems are now closed to new churches utilizing their facilities as an initial starting place, there will be a presentation about the unique needs of new churches seeking a meeting place to reach new people. The day will conclude with a Q&A and a panel discussion.
Mission leaders are encouraged to bring potential legacy church leaders and laymen with them. Or, consider inviting key pastors who are open to adopting a legacy church or facilitate a church restart in a legacy church building as a part of their mission strategy.
We will begin at 10 a.m. and finish at 4:30 p.m.
There is no cost to attend this conference as it is provided by your gifts through the Cooperative Program. Lunch is provided. For participants who travel some distance and would like to spend the night, you may reserve rooms at your expense at Caraway Conference Center.
