From dental clinics in rural communities to disaster relief in Jamaica, the North Carolina Missions Offering fuels life-changing work that meets people's urgent physical needs while opening doors to share the hope found in Jesus. “As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” John 20:21 captures the heart of North Carolina Baptists through the North Carolina Missions Offering. This year, with a goal of $2.8 million, every N.C. Baptist church is invited to join in sending volunteers, resources and hope to meet people’s greatest physical needs while pointing them to Jesus.

At Lake Lure Baptist Church, a mobile dental bus provides needed services to community members without access to dental care. 

“We have many people that do not have the means in order to take care of their dental health,” said Lake Lure Pastor Anton Roos. “We are grateful to be able to provide for them physically, but at the same time take care of their greatest need, and that is the need for Jesus Christ.”

Linda Poe, a Lake Lure volunteer, was struck by the joy she recognized in patients after their appointments, and the conversations she had with them. 

“They are so happy and thankful to have had this work done for them, and it can be life-changing,” Poe said. “It’s a privilege to be here.”

When Hurricane Helene devastated western North Carolina two years ago, it seemed to homeowner Mackenzie Logan as if she had lost everything. She called the volunteers who recently rebuilt her home “angels.”

“They have made this, the hardest thing that’s ever happened to my life, made this the most amazing thing that’s ever happened to my life,” Logan said. 

“Your home – it’s everything – and losing that was really hard. So getting that given back to me, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it completely.”

Richard Weeks, Baptists on Mission’s rebuild coordinator for western North Carolina, said volunteers are needed to complete rebuilds on many more homes. As of September 2026, 1,155 homes have been completed, 190 rebuilds are in progress, and 60 await assessment. 

Homes are built “not just by volunteers … but with the love of Christ,” Weeks said. 

In Jamaica last year, Hurricane Melissa devastated Clinton Pickering’s home. He lost his roof, water and electricity. Now when he hears even a drop of rain, he relives that night in his memory. 

But the day a team of disaster relief volunteers restored his roof became “one of the happiest days of my life,” Pickering said. 

Across the Atlantic in Hungary and Romania, missionary Alicia Jones, Baptists on Mission’s in-country coordinator, partners with Hungarian Baptist Aid to reach villages through medical clinics. 

Medical outreach “opens the door for us to invite people that would not step into these village churches,” said Jones. “Coming to a medical clinic is so simple for them, so it opens a whole new door for us to reach them with something that is their need today, and it might give them some hope for tomorrow.”

Brenda Boberg, who volunteers with Baptists on Mission, has witnessed the heartbreaking needs and obstacles people face there. She has learned to surrender to God what is His to redeem, and instead serve as a channel of hope. 

Even in a short time, Boberg has seen God transform lives. 

“We have seen people who were living lives of total brokenness, alcoholism, drugs, and Christ has come in and He’s taken their lives, and He has changed them,” Boberg said. 

“And now they are serving Him. Now they are going out, and they are being the hands and feet of Jesus.”
