William Ortega serves as the Hispanic church planting strategist with the Ministry Strategies group. He has been on staff with the Baptist state convention since June 2013.

William’s primary responsibility is to provide field service and consultation for associations and church leaders in the area of church planting among Hispanics, developing a strategy to ensure that all Hispanic people are being targeted and engaged through different church planting efforts across the state. He also assists in planning and conducting training events and conferences for church planters and church leaders.

William was born in Costa Rica. Before joining the state convention, William served as a career missionary and mega-city strategist in Mexico City with the International Mission Board for 14 years. William also previously pastored and planted churches in North Carolina for more than a decade while working on prioritizing church planting opportunities with the North American Mission Board in the Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention area.

William is a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Orpha, have two daughters.
