Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates that He has a particular love for orphans. Psalm 68:5 tells us, “A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.” The brother of Jesus Christ, James, informs his readers in his epistle that orphan care is a fruit of true religion.
As we celebrate Sanctity of Life Sunday, here are some resources that will equip you to serve God by serving “the least of these.”
Developing an orphan-care heart
“We have to think beyond adoption,” says Tony Merida, pastor of preaching and vision at Imago Dei Church in Raleigh. In this video, Merida, who has adopted five children with his wife, Kimberly, describes how there is more the church can do to fulfill its biblical charge to care for “the least of these.” Merida is also the author of the book Orphanology.

How the Gospel Shapes the Sanctity of Life
In this free, downloadable e-book, Russell Moore, president of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), explains how the gospel is central to how we think through the sanctity of human life and is the reason that we speak for those who do not have a voice. Politics and the person: Why legislation matters for the pro-life cause
Many people shy away from politics because of a lack of understanding or disillusionment. But the political arena is important for many causes. At the ERLC’s 2018 Evangelicals for Life conference, Travis Wussow moderated a discussion between Tim Goeglein, Charles Camosy, Denise Harle and Shannon Royce about the pro-life movement in politics.
Focus on the Family
The sanctity of human life has long been a core tenet of Focus on the Family’s identity. Their website includes several resources related to the preborn, abortion, adoption, foster care, those with special needs and more.
