From the N.C. State Fair to communities across the state, Baptists on Mission’s health and dental ministries meet physical needs while sharing gospel hope. Thanks to the North Carolina Missions Offering, thousands receive care each year, and many come to know Christ.

For nearly five decades, Sheila Prevatte served as a registered nurse. Now in retirement, she continues to use her skills to point people to Christ through Baptists on Mission’s health screening and mobile dental ministries.

“I was given these skills to use to help bring others the knowledge of Christ and to know Jesus,” Prevatte said.

These ministries bring compassionate care to individuals with limited or no access to health care. Each year, mobile dental units and health screening clinics serve thousands, including workers and fairgoers at the North Carolina State Fair in the fall. There, volunteers offer blood tests and guidance for follow-up care while also sharing the hope found in Christ. Blood tests help alert patients of risk for conditions like diabetes and cardiac disease.

“We’re here because God loves us,” Prevatte explained. “And we want them to know that God loves them as well.”

In 2024, Baptists on Mission held 47 health screening clinics, where 475 volunteers served 828 patients. They celebrated 14 professions of faith through the ministry. They also held 127 mobile dental clinics around the state, serving 2,415 patients. Dental professionals, pastors, nurses and lay people made up the 1,933 volunteers who served at the clinics, which saw 33 salvations.

Every fall, N.C. Baptist churches join together in generosity through the North Carolina Missions Offering (NCMO). Gifts to the offering fuel ministries like mobile health and dental clinics. The NCMO also makes other ministries through Baptists on Mission possible, as well as church planting through SendNC and local ministry efforts through associations.

This year’s theme is “Living Sent,” based on John 20:21: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” The theme highlights seeing a need, responding to it and offering hope in Jesus’ name.

The 2025 NCMO goal is $2.6 million. Whether you give as an individual or through your church, every gift makes a difference.
