Mercy Hill Church consolidated its Triad-area campuses into a single worship gathering on Sunday, Sept. 13, holding a single service at First National Bank Field in downtown, home of minor league baseball’s Greensboro Grasshoppers.

The church said on social media that about 6,000 people attended.

The event, billed as “Church at the Ballpark,” began with preservice activities on the field at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. service that included worship music and a message from Lead Pastor Andrew Hopper. According to the church, 141 people were baptized during the service.

“‘Church at the Ballpark’ is in the books, but the fruit is going to go on into eternity,” Hopper said in a video posted to social media. “What an absolutely amazing day.”

Mercy Hill was started in 2012 by Hopper and a launch team of about 30 people, meeting outdoors in Hopper’s backyard and then moving to a local park before growing into a church with five campuses across the Triad. 

Sunday’s event marked one of the church’s regular efforts to bring all of its campuses together for a single citywide service. It was also held in conjunction with the church’s 14th anniversary.

“It was an incredible day,” Hopper said. “The Lord blessed, and let’s just pray that we’re going to continue to see the fruit from it for a long time.”
