The executive committee of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina’s board of directors heard a series of ministry updates and took action on a few minor business items during a meeting held Monday, Nov. 6, prior to the start of this year’s N.C. Baptist annual meeting.

Financial report

During the meeting, N.C. Baptist officials shared a financial update with executive committee members.

Through Oct. 31, Cooperative Program receipts totaled more than $23.2 million which is nearly $264,000 or 1.15% ahead of the same time period as last year. With two months left in the year, convention officials are projecting a $175,000 shortfall for the current year’s $29.5 million budget, but said they are optimistic about meeting the budget based on year-end giving trends.

Giving to the North Carolina Missions offered totaled nearly $1.8 million through Oct. 31, which is about $44,000 or 2.6% ahead of the same time period this year.

Giving to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering totaled more than $6.9 million, and giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions totaled more than $12 million through Oct. 31.

Business items

In business items the executive committee:

  • Approved several policy updates to the state convention’s employee handbook. The executive committee serves as the state convention’s personnel committee and is authorized to make such changes.
  • Gave final approval to proposed amendments to the Biblical Recorder bylaws which will be presented to messengers for consideration during the annual meeting.
  • Authorized the N.C. Baptist Director of Operations John Butler to approve housing allowance requests by ordained state convention staff.

Next meeting

The executive committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 30, 2024, as part of a regularly scheduled meeting of the full N.C. Baptist board of directors.
