Online registration for messengers and guests opens Monday, April 26, for the special meeting of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC) that will be held Saturday, May 22, to elect a new executive director-treasurer of the state convention.

Registration will be available at ncspecialmeeting.org/register.

The special meeting is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 134 S. Peace Haven Road, in Winston-Salem. Online registration is requested for all attendees, and voting will be limited to registered messengers in attendance who have been elected by their respective churches.

To register, messengers should use a unique, personal email address, and they will need their church’s ID and PIN numbers.

A letter containing registration instructions, along with ID and PIN numbers, was mailed to N.C. Baptist churches on Monday, April 19. Churches that have an email address on file with the convention will also receive an email when registration opens on Monday, April 26, with registration instructions and their ID and PIN numbers.

Registrants will receive a ticket for the special meeting via email within one week of completing their registration. Attendees must present their ticket when they arrive and check in at the special meeting.

Matt Capps, president of the BSCNC’s board of directors and pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Apex, encouraged church leaders to follow their church’s process for electing messengers and make plans to attend the special meeting.

“This is an important event in the history of our state convention and for the mission of God in our state,” Capps said. “I encourage every church to elect messengers and make attending the special meeting a priority as we collectively as a convention seek to discern God’s will for our future.”

During the special meeting, messengers will consider the nomination of Todd Unzicker, chief of staff at The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, as the next executive director-treasurer of the state convention.

State convention bylaws stipulate that the executive director-treasurer must be elected at an annual meeting or special meeting of the convention, based upon a nomination from the BSCNC’s board of directors.

The board affirmed Unzicker as its nominee during a meeting held Friday, April 16, at Caraway Conference Center near Asheboro.

The bylaws also allow for additional nominations to be made from the floor of the convention.

Please note that several health and safety protocols will be in place for the event, which include temperature checks, social distancing and face coverings.

Additional details about the meeting will be posted at ncspecialmeeting.org as they become available.
