Read our highlights from day seven of the statewide 'ServeNC' initiative.

On Aug. 3-10, more than 1,000 churches are partnering together to serve North Carolina communities as part of a statewide emphasis called “ServeNC.”

The “ServeNC” initiative, organized by North Carolina Baptists and their partnering organization Baptists on Mission, encourages churches to consider and respond to the needs of local neighborhoods by taking on service projects within their communities. By the time the emphasis week began on Saturday, Aug. 3, more than 1,150 churches in 92 North Carolina counties had committed to serve. A map of churches participating in “ServeNC” can be found here.

Day seven highlights

  • Rich Fork Church in Thomasville partnered with a nearby restaurant to provide breakfast to children and families who were forced to evacuate to Thomasville due to Tropical Storm Debby. • The Raleigh Baptist Association (RBA) spent the day distributing backpacks to refugee children living in Raleigh. The RBA has worked with many partnering churches to collect and assemble hundreds of backpacks for refugees and children experiencing homelessness across the Triangle.
  • In Durham, volunteers from Bethesda Baptist Church delivered snacks and drinks to first responders at several stations close to the church. Children from Bethesda Baptist also created cards to deliver to the first responders.

  • In western North Carolina, Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sylva partnered with Baptists on Mission to offer a free dental and medical clinic to the community through Baptists on Mission’s mobile units. Baptists on Mission offers dental and medical buses for churches to use year-round as one of their 19 different ministries supported by the North Carolina Missions Offering.
